Lake Charles Alumni Charter - Kappa Bikes for Kids Initiative
For Christmas 2006, the chapter decided to perform an initiative to give new bicycles to needy children. This decision was the beginning of our Annual Kappa Bikes for Kids Initiative. Through the combined efforts of our chapter brothers and help from friends and co-workers we were able to purchase 47 new bikes of various sizes and styles. On December 2, the bicycles were turned over to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves for their "Toys for Tots" Programs, June Jenkins Women's Shelter in DeRidder and the Leesville Bikers Toys of Kids. The bikes will be distributed throughout numerous communities in Western Louisiana. It is our hope that this initiative will blossom to include the entire State of Louisiana, all of the Southwestern Province of Kappa Alpha Psi, and eventually go national as an initiative of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated. On 21 December 2007 we were able to give 55 new bikes to needy kids in Lake Charles and DeRidder. We thank the friends of the Lake Charles Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. A special thanks to Walmart Super Center in DeRidder, Walmart Nelson Drive and Jefferson Davis Bank for their contributions to this initiative.
